5 seconds of Summer

5 seconds of summer is an Australian pop-rock band formed in Sydney, Australia. Formed in 2011, The band consisted of Michael Clifford, Luke Hemmings, Calum Hood and Ashton Irwin. The group were originally Youtube celebrities posting videos of themselves covering various songs in 2011. From there, they gained popularity in 2012 after posting a series of cover versions of popular songs by various artists onto Youtube, then rose to international fame when one direction invited them to play as an opening act for their take me home tour. The band had also conducted a contest called Derp Con where in they would pick fans from all around the world and fly then the states to watch their concert at the Forum located in California. Although the band may have gained a lot of fame world wide, they are not the next one direction.
